Beauty & Self-Image, My Photo Essay

Check out my photo essay

Women will do everything they can to live up to society’s expectations, or what the media see’s as sociably acceptable to look beautiful. Keeping up to date on the latest trends, hairstyles, fashion, etc and for what? We’re always preparing ourselves to look decent for other’s just in case we go out in public, or run into someone we haven’t seen in a while. Of course we want to look good. But, how often do women sport looks or appearances of a male? In my photo essay my goal was to explore different places out in the public eye that I could possibly find women who felt comfortable with their self image. A lot of women I was aiming to capture pictures of were one’s that weren’t so dolled up, particularly one’s without makeup and appeared dressed down. I had explained my reasoning for taking picture’s and most of them were fine with the idea, while other’s denied me because they felt uncomfortable. But, my whole reasoning behind this photo essay is to make women understand that beauty isn’t always about applying makeup, or posing for the camera with a grin from cheek to cheek. Beauty is how a person is captured or seen in the exact moment of when they aren’t aware of who is actually taking’s that polaroid moment.
